Grade Rationale

Why do I deserve a higher than B grade?

I deserve an A in this class because of the hard work and enthusiasm I have for this class. I’m present in class and often participating when Ryan asks questions. My mind is always bubbling with ideas that I want to share with the class, and I always look forward to hearing others’ suggestions and ideas to improve my writing as well. I’m timely with my papers and peer reviews, and I take constructive criticism very seriously. I critically think about how I should incorporate feedback while maintaining my voice and ideas. During peer reviews, I’m prepared to explain my feedback as well as listen to the writer’s perspective and add on to his/her ideas

Specifically in my essay writing, I felt that I am very dedicated to my craft. I took the grading contract as a way to explore subjects I’m interested in. In my Definition Paper, I decided to pick the word “significance” which I’m personally interested in due to my passion for STEM and Humanities. I continued exploring through my Primary Research Paper, which I painstakingly sought out classmates of mine to do interviews. I also helped my seat mate in class come up with ideas for his research paper. Finally, during finals week, I really put my soul into writing about a very personal topic about my disabilities in the Narrative Argument Paper. In every paper I write, I dedicate hours to just plan out the paper and sit there to write.

Ultimately, I feel like I deserve the grade because I showed enthusiasm and dedication for this class. I truly enjoyed the whole process of writing—the brainstorming, drafting, and editing—and I felt like I was able to express it to Ryan and my peers in every class session. English 225 was my absolute favorite class this semester. I hope that my final portfolio will convince everyone of what I learned and cherished this semester.

Thank you so much for such a wonderful year!
